MANCHESTER CITY VS. LIVERPOOL
On a chilly January afternoon, Liverpool notched up their biggest ever Premier League win, putting seven past the Saints in a ruthless fashion. Robbie Fowler led the way with a superb hat-trick and Michael Owen terrorised the Saint’s defence. But that didn’t stop Manchester City being called the better team, scoring eight goals against Watford – a Premier League record.
However, Liverpool decimated Manchester City just a couple of years ago in the Champions League: 5-1. In 2019, they won four trophies, completing an unprecedented sweep of all domestic trophies in England and becoming the first English men’s team to win the domestic treble.
Manchester City’s revenue was the fifth highest of a football club in the world in the 2017-2018 seas at €527.7 million. Yet money was no match for Liverpool who won the Champions League in the last season of 2-0 against Tottenham.
But in each respective team’s last six meeting, Manchester City have won three whereas Liverpool have only won two and drawn 1. With four First Division/Premier League titles, five FA Cups, three League Cups and one Winners’ Cup, Manchester City stands tall as one of the most successful English football clubs of all time. This is on top of six European Cups (more than any other English club), three UEFA Cups and four UEFA Super Cups, eighteen League titles, seven FA cups and fifteen FA Community Shields
Both teams have an exceptional array of players. For Manchester City, Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Kevin De Bryne Ederson and more. Liverpool on the other hand have Mo Salah, Mane, Firminio, Van Dijk and many more. Statistically, Manchester City appears the better team, yet the rival between these two clubs ultimately wages on.
