THE BIRD BOX CHALLENGE

The Bird Box Challenge - a simple name for a challenge that has killed and hurt many people.

The Bird Box challenge is inspired by the Netflix film, starring Sandra Bullock, where a mysterious force annihilates the population and only one thing is certain - if you see the mysterious force, you die. If the characters open their eyes, they'll be infected with something beyond their knowledge that will force them to violently kill themselves. The survivors must now avoid coming face to face with a being that takes the form of their worst fears. Searching for hope and a new beginning, a woman and her children embark on a dangerous journey through the woods and down a river to find the one place that may offer sanctuary. To make it, they'll have to cover their eyes from the supernatural creature that chases them - and complete the trip blindfolded.

Many YouTubers have done the bird-box challenge, where similarly, they go places and do things blindfolded, like drive a car blindfolded or just go down an escalator. It may not seem dangerous but it can actually be lethal.

A group was walking together around the streets of New York City blindfolded. One man starts running and ends up falling down many stairs of a subway entrance, severely injuring himself.

An even worse incident was when a 17-year-old teenager was driving a car with a blindfold over his eyes in Utah, and you can guess what happened…

This is only one of the many dangerous challenges that go viral such as the Tide Pod challenge which involved eating poisonous detergent and the Kylie Jenner lip challenge, which involved sucking on glasses to artificially inflate your lips, sometimes rupturing blood vessels. Vloggers and YouTubers need to recognise their position in the public eye and realise their responsibility beyond garnering views.
